It's been a week since we've left

It's Sunday around lunch and Emily is making homemade waffles for lunch. The kids have been outside playing in the sand. Van has been taking really long naps here, which has been nice. We are over the jet lag, but exhausted by 8:30 p.m., so we've been going to bed early but waking up around 5 a.m. or so.

Keith and Andy will return from their trip today. We are ready to see Keith. Tomorrow we'll venture out again, but I am not sure exactly where we'll be heading. It's quiet out here, we woke up to the sounds of birds chirping, a lot nicer than the sounds of cars reving up their engines.

Their house is on a hill, so there is quite a nice view from here.

Indonesia

We had a small earthquake last night, but we didn't feel it. Keith is off on an overnight trip. The boys and I are staying with our friend, I am not ready to spend the night alone with the boys in the slap middle of nowhere. The electricity goes off often and it's pitch black here at night. We walked to our friend's house today and let me tell you it's a mighty steep hill. Needless to say we were sweaty when we arrived.

I have used a squatty potty twice already and that's enough to last me for a lifetime. Thursday I had my first experience eating in a restaurant in my barefeet. We went to the pool yesterday and we could see the Indian Ocean, it was such a beautiful view. We went to KFC for lunch and then to the grocery store/mall.

We saw a small monkey run across the road yesterday. We have seen many beautiful flowers and butterflies. I saw my first chocolate plant, cinnamon tree and other various bushes and trees.

Van has been torturing our friends' poor cat, but the cat seems to enjoy the attention.

It's 11 a.m. Saturday morning here and the boys are hanging out and playing with a few new friends.

We are in Indonesia

We have arrived safely despite delays on almost every flight. Race got sick and threw up at the Jakarta airport, at least we were not on the plane. We could hardly keep our eyes open on the last flight here. We got to bed around 10 and we all slept very well and through the night. We are a little groggy today, but doing well. We took a tour of the goats this morning, that was fun and will tour around a little more lately. We are hanging out with our friends right now and trying to do a little bit of school work while the smaller kids nap. Keith is outside enjoying the scenery. I learned that you can hear the Apes from where we are staying, I just don't want to see one up close, unless he's at the zoo.

Today is the day!

We just finished our breakfast and are hanging out in the computer room. We'll be flying out at 4:40 p.m. and landing in New York around 7:45 p.m. or so and so the journey begins.

1st Destination

We arrived at our hotel in Cincinnati around 3 p.m. The boys and I went for a swim and then we went out for pizza. I forgot my camera cable, so no pictures for a few days.

Can't get enough of that rice!!!

We are getting prepared for our trip to Indonesia. We will visit some friends for about two weeks. While there we'll visit some villages, get a tour of a farm, go to the Beach and explore some towns. The suitcases are almost packed and most of the to do list has been checked off. Most importantly, the Benadryl and snacks are ready to go. We have a very long overnight layover in New York on the way home, so please pray for our safety throughout the entire trip.

Guess what the staple food of Indonesia is? Why, of course, it's RICE!!!!!!!!!!!

Our next post hopefully will be from Indonesia if we are able find a computer with internet access.

We will board the plane to New York Saturday afternoon and after 30 hours of traveling we'll arrive at our destination in Indonesia on Tuesday 5:30 p.m. their time.

It's a fish!

 

 

 

The photo on the last update was of a fish at the Gatlinburg Aquarium. Keith was the first one to notice that the fish's underside looked like a face. We really enjoyed the aquarium, the boys had a lot of fun.

We started school a few days ago, so I haven't had much time to blog lately. We are getting ready to go on another trip, so that has also been consuming my time lately.
