Well, we are about 3 weeks into school and it's been challenging. I will have to say that 7th grade so far has a heavier workload than I expected.

Van went for a speech evaluation and done great, he does not need any help, he is on target for his age. I felt kind of dumb after the meeting, because I was expecting him to pronounce everything correctly and the evaluator said that he's not expected to say certain things clearly until he's around 5. So, now I am trying to find a Mother's day out program for him that's not too far from our house, but no such luck so far.

The kitties are headed to the snip clinic (no need to explain, I hope) on the 7th. Our cats are roaming into our neighbors' yards too much, so we are going to get them fixed and licensed and bring them inside. This was not our intentions going into this. I guess I have to remember that I am living in the city now and it's not normal for cats to roam wherever they please. Van loves these cats too much for us to give them away, so we'll see how it goes.

Van loves these cats, especially the yellow one, Pooch. Pooch is extremely patient with Van. He's been thrown into the pool, had his tail pulled, toted by the skin and you name it and he still comes back for more.

Poppy and Granna spent the weekend with us and on Saturday we went to the top of Iroquois Park and looked out onto the city.

Keith found this lovely tobacco worm and another one like him with eggs on it eating our tomato plants. Keith and Van were the only ones that would dare touch this slimy little creature.

The boy never leaves a man, Keith acted like he was going to put this thing on me and Race and we started backing up, threatening and giving him the eye, so he didn't end up putting it on us.

First Day of Seventh Grade

 

Here's our scholar hard at his studies. He is enjoying our new dvd homeschool program, so far at least. We haven't got as far as I would have liked today, but it's only the first day and we are trying to get all the kinks figured out. We hope to have a smooth schedule flowing by Monday.

This child talks from the moment he wakes up until the moment he shuts his eyes to go to sleep in evenings, except for a nice nap. He is napping right now, so Race and I are enjoying our momentary peace. I am still waiting on a piece of paperwork before I found out if he gets to go to pre-k for speech therapy. I was about ready to just homeschool him as well, but as I found out today, since it's our first day of school that pre-k sounds better and better. Race couldn't think because you know who kept talking. The one thing that got him to calm down for a while was www.starfall.com, it's an educational website I heard about. He enjoyed learning about his ABCs on there.

Van loves to play with my camera, so he took most of these while we were waiting on Keith to get home from work so that we can go out to eat!

 

The boys were in the basement eating a snack and about to watch an episode of Andy Griffith.

 

 

 

 

It's been busy around here. Yesterday we had to get some plumbing work done and today we had the basement carpet cleaned. We are also trying to get prepared for school, which we'll start on Thursday. We went to a birthday party for Race's best friend last weekend and we had Persian food. This weekend we have another birthday party and then in a few weeks Race will have his birthday. I am still waiting to get a report from Van's hearing test before I can send in the information to the school system here to find out if he qualifies for speech therapy at the local elementary school.
